If you are ever considering working while you’re in school, look into some of the on-campus jobs that are provided by your institution. Especially if this is your first time working and you want to make a little cash on the side, having an on-campus job provides students the added advantage needed while in school. Your institution knows how busy your life can get and understand that you are student first. Flexibility and convenience are their competitive advantage when it comes to students that are looking for work options that provide them with the ability to alter around their crazy schedules all while having the luxury of not leaving campus.

There are plenty of students that have jobs outside of school. Many of which are needed to support their school tuition and expenses. Off-campus jobs do tend to offer better wages and have more benefits than most on-campus student positions. This is why most students gravitate towards this option. However, there are disadvantages that come with having an off-campus job. Most employers are aware that some of their employees are students and will try to provide the flexibility needed to continue their employment. It is important to remember that these employers also have bosses that require them to make certain quotas and have dedicated employees that can show up at a predictable time. This is where there can be a potential conflict with student employees that are not always able to keep a consistent schedule and these same employers will begin hiring employees that can. It is important to keep this in mind for students that have the option to work on-campus. If job security is a priority to you, on-campus employment may be better suited.

Students working their nights off tips

If on-campus employment interests you, start looking into some of the positions offered by your school. Check your institution’s job portal or student employment job board for upcoming positions that provide you with a job you want at your convenience. Look into those bookstore clerk positions, the marketplace jobs, some student assistant positions as some starting points. Working while you are in school is something you want to ease into. See if this is for you and if you can handle having more responsibilities added to your plate. This should not be a scary thing at all. If this is something you would like to do, I highly recommend you try this option out first before looking into outside employment.
